We think about fragrance the way a perfumer does.
Most candles are built around a single idea. Vanilla. Lavender. Clean cotton. One note, easy to describe, easy to forget.
That's not how we work.
At Kinkette, every scent is a composition — a deliberate layering of fragrance accords that reveal themselves over the course of the burn. What you smell when you first light a Kinkette candle is not what you smell an hour in. The top notes open the room. The middle notes hold it. The base notes linger long after the flame is out.
That arc is intentional. It's what separates a scent that's interesting from one that's unforgettable.
What is a fragrance accord?
A fragrance accord is a family of scent notes that share a common character, whether it’s a mood, a texture, or a feeling. Perfumers build compositions by blending accords the way a musician layers instruments. Each accord contributes something different, and the magic is in how they interact.
At Kinkette, we work primarily across five accord families:
Woody accords
Woody accords are the foundation of depth. They're grounding, warm, and often the notes that last longest on the skin or in a room. Within the woody family you'll find everything from dry, smoky woods like vetiver and oud to softer, creamier woods like sandalwood and cedar.
Woody accords are the backbone of several Kinkette scents. They anchor the composition and give it staying power. When you're still catching a hint of fragrance hours after a Kinkette candle has burned out, you're smelling the woody base doing its job.

Floral accords
Florals are the most varied accord family in perfumery and the most misunderstood. Most people associate florals with light, feminine, conventional scents. But the floral family spans an enormous range: from the heady, almost narcotic intensity of tuberose and jasmine to the clean, watery freshness of water lily and peony.
At Kinkette, we use florals not as the headline but as a counterpoint to provide a softness that makes the darker, bolder notes land harder by contrast.

Chypre accords
Chypre (pronounced SHEEP-ruh) is one of the oldest and most sophisticated fragrance families in perfumery, built on the classic tension between oakmoss or labdanum, citrus, and a woody or musky base. Chypre scents feel simultaneously fresh and deep, a contradiction that makes them some of the most complex and enduring compositions in the fragrance world.
A chypre accord in a candle creates an atmosphere that's hard to name but impossible to ignore. Refined, confident, and slightly mysterious.

Gourmand accords
Gourmand accords are edible, indulgent, and deeply comforting. They are built from notes like vanilla, cocoa, caramel, and tonka bean. In lesser hands they can read as sweet and one-dimensional. Used with restraint and paired against darker notes, they become something richer: warmth, desire, skin.
At Kinkette, we use gourmand accords as a seductive undercurrent rather than a headline. The cocoa and black vanilla in DIRTY BOY aren't sweet — they're dark. The difference is in what surrounds them.

Musk accords
Musk is the most intimate of all fragrance accords. It's the note that makes a scent feel like it's coming from skin rather than a bottle. Musks are warm, close, and human. In candle form, musk creates a softness that makes a room feel inhabited rather than just scented.
Every Kinkette candle carries a musk component in its base. It's what gives our compositions their depth and their sense of intimacy. The scent that makes you want to stay in the room.

How we build a Kinkette scent
We start with a mood, not a note list. What does this scent feel like? What does it say when it walks into a room? What kind of person lights it and why?
From there we work in layers — top, middle, and base — making sure each accord earns its place in the composition and that the transitions between them feel deliberate, not accidental.
We don't sign off on a scent until it performs in the burn. A fragrance that smells beautiful cold but loses its complexity when lit isn't a Kinkette candle. Our coconut soy wax is chosen specifically because its porous structure holds and releases multi-layered fragrance more faithfully than paraffin, preserving the full arc of the composition from first light to last.
The result is a candle that doesn't just smell good. It tells you something.
